Solid, hand-carved air-dried maple back and sides with superb eagle design inlay. Sraight, air-dried maple neck. Rosewood fingerboard and headboard with detailed inlay. Ebony bridge with adjustable buffalo bone saddle. Buffalo bone nut. Carved mother of pearl tuner knobs. Black lockable hard case with plush blue interior. Originally from Taisamlu (Sam Musical Instrument Worksop). Taisamlu has workshops in Taiwan and Vietnam. |

F5-Style
Instruments with a body shape based on the Gibson F-5 most famously played by Bill Monroe, the father of Bluegrass. Three points to the body with the top one scrolled. The classic bluegrass mandolin shape. For a good introduction to mandolin body styles see the answers.com entry for mandolin.
Report for this particular instrument
Originally from Taisamlu. Received in excellent condition. Required bridge setup for intonation and minor nut and bridge saddle filing. No other work needed. Fretwork excellent on this instument. Tested okay to offer for sale. Tested and setup by Dane Clarke and Clive Little at the workshops of MandoHarp Australia in Nambucca Heads.
About the Tester
Dane is a professional systems engineer,
academic and musician who has played harmonica for over forty years.
He currently plays harmonica and mandolin with a
celtic/folk/blues band, Headland and a celtic/gypsy band, The
Gypsy Tarts. Dane has researched and practiced instrument maintenance, repair
and tuning in earnest for the last five years or so (since retiring from
full-time professional work), and during this time has often been
privileged to meet and learn from some of Australia's premier
artists and technicians. On the qualifications side of
things, Dane has undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Business,
and post-graduate qualifications in Information Technology and
Education. He works as a part-time academic these days and though he
loves teaching computer engineering he enjoys himself much more when
working on instruments and playing music!
